How to get a better night’s sleep
One of the most important therapies in times of flux, and certainly nature’s finest, is deep nourishing sleep. Sleep enables our cells to repair and our organs to rest. Importantly, it also allows our subconscious to reset, processing previous events in preparation for the conscious day that follows.
The irony is that if we are under emotional strain our sub-conscious will bubble and burden us through the night, leaving us with a less than fair deal in terms of recovery.
Here are my top tips for a beautiful restorative sleep.
Face your fears in the day
Often the thought of something that’s troubling us is far worse than any pain that will result from facing it and taking action.
Whether it’s a work task, a troublesome conversation or a promise to ourselves that we keep pushing back, we need to address our biggest worries in the day. Going to bed with un-tackled fears is one of the most common disturbances to sleep. In the dark shadow of the night, worries are amplified and far worse than in the brighter daylight hours.
Crystals for sleep
Crystals have been used to promote a restful night for thousands of years. Not all crystals will do the job. In fact, just as gadgets in the home emits frequencies that have negative impact on sleep, high vibrational crystals should be kept away from the bedroom too. Choose lower chakra crystals that are calmer and have slow and soothing vibrational energy.
The energy of crystals affects everyone slightly differently, so if you notice something that is working, go with it. Equally if a crystal over stimulates you, keep it away from your bed.
I love working with different crystals for sleep. The following are my recommendations.
Selenite is an effective cleansing crystal. It helps dispel negative energy in our environment as well as clearing and re-charging our own energetic fields as we sleep.
Amethyst is such a beautiful companion stone. It helps us tune into our higher selves and can open our subconscious to deeply strengthening and visual dreams.
Moonstone is a calming crystal and used to aid sleep for thousands of years. It’s a great stone for acceptance, giving us the good grace to let go of that which we cannot control. It’s an excellent guide for new beginnings.
Rose Quartz is a love stone. It opens our heart and helps us take on board loving healing energy. With an open heart, we can love ourselves and those around us freely and readily. An open heart is the gateway to a happy life.
Lepidolite is a beautiful crystal companion. It is a soothing stone that quietens the mind, bringing a halt to negativity and rumination. It is a must-have stone for sadness and sleep problems.
A sleep ritual
Rituals can offer a powerful way to pause, create space and honour ourselves. When you choose, cleanse and position your sleep crystals, you are starting to create a calm and mindful sleep routine.
A clean, de-cluttered room is more conducive to rest. Make sure you unplug and remove any technology, work related documents or clothes from the day. Cleanse the energy by literally removing the day and making your space sacred for sleep.
Before you finish
Reflect on the day and think about what went well and what is still niggling. An effective technique is to re-play things that didn’t go so well in your mind, changing thing so that they ran smoothly.
Take a moment to write down anything that you need to tackle tomorrow, in small bitesize chunks. Leave the note outside the door away from your bed.
Finally, think about what you can be grateful for. We have so much to thank our blessings for. End the day with love and gratitude, not regret and remorse.
“I am thankful for the chance to close my eyes and let go”.
“I have done my best today and I am willing to forgive the rest”.
And so it is.
